Getting visitor privileges at other libraries

OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) is a network of libraries (50 million items or so) that provides a Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing Program.  The Missouri S&T Library can issue a "borrower's card" to verify for the distant library that the bearer is an authentic UM-Rolla patron.  A faculty member can go to the Circulation Desk at the Missouri S&T Library to arrange for a FRBP card, which must be assigned a specific expiration date.

The specific privileges granted depend on the policies of the library being visited.  For example, Johns Hopkins allows a visiting faculty member to use their library, but materials can only be used on the premises -" items may NOT be checked out.  In contrast, University of Maryland-"College Park allows materials to be checked out with the FRBP card.
