The CAREER Program "offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations" (from the Synopsis of the program's Solicitation).
This year's deadline for CAREER proposals: 21-23 July 2009, depending upon NSF directorate.

Dialog with NSF Program Directors – as part of the Great Plains Network Consortium Annual Meeting, two program managers from CISE, one from Engineering, and one from SBE will be available to discuss NSF, the CAREER proposal, and engage in small group and one-on-one dialog with you. It is unusual to have this many program managers in one place near S&T. Registration is at http://collaboration.greatplains.net/wiki/index.php/Annual_Meeting:2009. Costs are $124/night for hotel and $100 for registration. You may apply for partial support to attend the conference from the Office of Vice Provost for Research, but funds are limited.
